Practice Statement

Models at Studio Power are used as tools to review and iterate on designs at key points along a project's early timeline. Using models to communicate scale and form to clients and the public, we can understand a project's relationships to light, sightlines, and its context more clearly than digital methods. Primarily using 3D printing, we quickly produce multiple iterations to allow them to be reviewed and developed concurrently.

Booths Bank Farm, 1:500, Site Context Model Produced for a pre-application meeting with Salford City Council, this context model was created to understand the site's levels and the relationships between the proposed homes and neighbouring properties. Rather than this model representing the final design, we designed it to allow each house type to be swapped or replaced as the homes' designs developed in response to team, client, and councillor comments. With Shaw Brook running parallel to the development site, it was essential that the site levels be communicated clearly, as drawings struggle to show this relative to other areas. Furthermore, it was important to show the proposed landscape strategy: maintaining the majority of trees currently on the site's perimeters, establishing links to Alder Wood to the east and a public right-of-way to the south, and creating a woodland play area at the heart of the project within a proposed attenuation basin.
