Editional Studio is an architecture practice committed to working within planetary boundaries.
We design homes and public spaces specialising in passive house and retrofit; creatively adapting existing buildings to reduce their energy use. Through our research we advocate for a low-carbon built environment and explore how resourceful, creative design and sustainable materials can help to restore and regenerate natural systems.
Model making is an integral part of how we think about architecture, and models are fundamental to how we communicate and engage people in the design process.
We use models as tool for consultation, encouraging & supporting people to realise their ideas in paper, card and glue. We like to conclude key work stages with a large scale model, thinking carefully about how to protray materials and details accurately .
Everyone can understand a model, whereas a technical drawing or diagram can be difficult to interpret. A group can stand around a model and debate the proposal. A model can live on as a legacy of the design stage, engaging and enthusing passers-by.
